About Arum : A White Room

Arum has been more than two years in the making and Anne Rush has developed and extended her original concept with inexhaustible dedication and energy.

The exhibition is a departure for an artist who made her name with her colour filled paintings. Arum, A White Room is exactly that-an all white installation of over 700 sculpted arum lilies. The change in her mode of working and the embracing of the cultural connotations of the arum, arose from a period of turbulence in the artist’s life. The very act of making, refining and repeating forms became a journey in self healing.

The artist’s intention for the exhibition is to create an environment of tranquillity for all visitors, yet the installation is a reflection of her “search for peace in an uncertain world.” The arum forms in their multiplicity and arrangement are like passages of music, where the rhythm and pace vary within the space. In this all white environment, the subtle interplay of light and shade become important and every nuance becomes part of the total experience.
